Biography
Studied at the Lviv Polytechnic Institute, where he received an engineering diploma. In 1902, he began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under Józef Mehoffer and Leon Wyczółkowski. In 1906, he supplemented his education at the Académie Julian in Paris. He belonged to the Society of Polish Artists "Sztuka" and the Secession of Vienna. He was president of the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Cracow. He conducted lively artistic and pedagogical activities. In 1921 he was appointed associate professor at the Cracow Academy, and in 1925-28 he was dean of the Faculty of Painting and Sculpture. From 1937 he was a full professor of painting. He exhibited at numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. The folk theme played an extremely important role in Jarocki's rich oeuvre. The artist liked to paint figures of Hutsul and Podhale highlanders in characteristically decorated costumes and depicted their traditional rituals. Much of his artistic output is now housed in many museums and in the famous Harenda, a Zakopane villa built by the Young Poland poet Jan Kasprowicz, the painter's father-in-law.
