He studied painting at the Warsaw Drawing School under W. Gerson and Kauzik. He spent the years 1895-1896 in Paris studying at the Academie Vitti and with E. Aman-Jean and R. Collin. In 1898 he received a silver medal for a series of postcards on Warsaw. In 1928 and 1951 he received the Warsaw City Prize. He painted in oil, tempera, gouache, pastel and watercolor techniques. The subjects of his works were landscapes, portraits, still lifes, but most often he painted the architecture and monuments of Warsaw. his works can be seen, among others, in the National Museum of Warsaw, Poznan and the National Museum of the City of Warsaw. Father of Tadeusz Cieślewski son- graphic designer and art critic.
