Biography
Stanislaw Gibinski, during his studies at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts, remained under the strong influence of J. Fałat and L. Wyczółkowski. He was united with Fałat by his love of watercolor technique, while Wyczółkowski sensitized him to the luministic issues of paintings. He was primarily a watercolorist; his oeuvre includes about 3,000 watercolors. They were characterized by careful texture, and he avoided paint streaks, intended to give the illusion of "spontaneous" technique. The basis for him was a drawing that formed an organic whole with a skillfully placed color patch. The artist had a valuable ability to omit unnecessary details and focus attention on the things most important for an evocative vision of the landscape. Particularly characteristic were paintings depicting scenes with hunters preparing to march out to hunt, often in winter scenery. He also painted landscapes, genre scenes such as fishermen wading in the water or people hurrying to a village church. He exhibited primarily at the TSPS in Cracow and at the "Independent" exhibitions.
