Pencil drawing colored in watercolor, on ark. 26x34.9 cm. Young shepherd playing flute, next to him a young woman in negligee, with modestly lowered eyes. The scene is set in the hills, you can see the trunks of felled trees and grazing cows, the horizon is obscured by snow-capped mountain peaks. Pastel colors, with a predominance of yellow, green and light blue. Above the lower edge, slightly to the right, pencil signature "M. Pawlikowska". She used this name in 1919-1929, being the wife of Jan Gwalbert Pawlikowski. Drawing in shared frame and passe-partout. Very good condition.
M. Pawlikowska, daughter of Wojciech, granddaughter of Juliusz, sister of Jerzy Kossak, known as a poet and playwright, was also engaged in amateur visual art. Initially, before and during the First World War, she consciously referred to the traditions of Young Poland, both in terms of the subject matter of her works and their form. In contrast, "the works of the 1920s are characterized by a kind of primitivism - a simplification of forms while emphasizing their compactness and solidity - a clear manifestation of her inspiration from the art of the Formists, with whom she was friends. Being and feeling first and foremost a poet, she did not treat her paintings professionally: she participated only once in the TPSP exhibition in Cracow (1916/1917), while she sold a great deal, mainly in artistic and literary circles, among acquaintances and friends" ("Polish Artists.
