Sébastien Louis Guillaume Norblin, Polish-French painter and draughtsman, also known by the pseudonym Sobeck, was the son of Jan Piotr Norblin. He was born in Warsaw. He initially studied under his father, and later took up painting studies at the Académie des Beaux Arts, including under Jean-Baptiste Regnault. He was a well-known and respected artist: between 1827 and 1876 he regularly participated in the official Parisian Salons, and was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1859. He painted portraits and landscapes, as well as larger compositions with themes usually taken from ancient history, myths and legends, portraits, landscapes and religious scenes intended for many churches, such as those in Le Havre, Mantes-la-Jolie and Paris. The artist also maintained numerous contacts with the Polish émigré community, centered around the Hotel Lambert and the Princes Czartoryski. He was the author of a series of paintings to decorate the interiors of this palace, among them Signs of the Zodiac. He also received commissions for portraits (Stanislaw and Zofia Zamoyski with their children; the palace in Kozlowka). The artist's paintings are in the collections of French museums, a few have also found their way into Polish collections, including the National Museum in Poznan, in the Museum in Siedlce.
