Biography
Tarkawian is a careful observer. His drawings are usually created during discussions, which he discreetly eavesdrops by capturing characters AND fragments of sentences. In this way they are created, personal and unique records processed through a very personal filter of sensations. The characters are sometimes captured without their bodies, just a delicate outline of selected fragments of them. Getting rid of unnecessary detail in the drawings brings out the emotion AND the philosophical sense of the event. Often in his drawings Tarkawian reveals humor and warm-hearted irony when describing events, especially when describing the world of contemporary art, which is close to him.
As Jan Gryka, curator of the Biala Gallery in Lublin, recalls, "He appeared at the Biala Gallery in June 2005 as a volunteer during preparations for the Nova Biala exhibition. Helping with its realization, during breaks, he took notes in drawings of everything that was happening around him. His drawings also began to include texts, overheard while drawing. It turned out that this form of notation became extremely active with the exhibition participants and visitors. Therefore, we decided to include the entire collection in the exhibition as a kind of "report". Both during the duration of Nova Biala, its dismantling and at subsequent exhibitions in the series of the 20th anniversary at the Biala Gallery, new drawings were constantly being created, until March 2006. The result was a collection of more than two hundred drawings that remarkably recorded events at the gallery for more than half a year. "The 'phenomenon' of the chronicler, who, just as the medieval representatives of this formula wrote down the history closest to him, became an immanent part of the activity associated with the gallery."
Since then, cycles of drawings were created as closed projects: Suspicious Drawings, My Art History, Potential Artists. In April 2006, he founded the drawing company Quick Bill, among others, with the following offer : -draws at the speed of an automaton; -draws sharper than a digital camera; -draws in the rain, in winter, at night and in difficult extreme conditions; -where no equipment can help, there he steps in and draws; -weddings, christenings, weddings, court hearings, celebrations of all kinds, including celebrations of national holidays and funerals, proms and others; -drawing prices are determined depending on the situation; -xero or signed copies much cheaper.
The artist cooperates with the ZOOM Cultural Informer by publishing a drawing every month, and a series of club drawings every week.
