A subject often painted by the dreamiest painters of all time, including Veronese, Nicholas Poussin and others. The Genesis theme depicts Eliezer of Damascus, Abraham's servant, whom Abraham has sent to Nachor in Chaldea to find a suitable wife for his son Isaac. Eliezer decides to choose the one who will offer him and his camels water to drink.
Chagall depicted this scene in the convention of primitive painting, being the only painter in history to paint this scene multiple times.
