Biography
Author of installations, photographs, performances, videos, objects and sculptures. Graduated from the Faculty of Multimedia Communication at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań (2001), lives and works in Warsaw. He has received scholarships from Location One and the Skowheagen International Residency, as well as from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the National Institute of Culture and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. The artist has presented his work in exhibitions at the Zachęta National Art Gallery in Warsaw, the Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, the Museum Moderner Kunst in Vienna, the Musée d'Art Moderne in Saint-Etienne, Artspace in Sydney, the National Center for Contemporary Art in Moscow, the Palazzo delle Arti in Naples, the Royal Scottish Academy and the Chelsea Art Museum in New York. Bąkowski's work can be described as an exploration of the area of actual and potential collective consciousness, contemporary phantasms, fears and perceptions, in a world whose reception is dominated by media messages. At the same time, his realizations are full of irony and humor. In recent years, the artist has been involved in futurological visions, science fiction culture and space conquest.
