" The main theme of the engravings from the collection is the idolatrous homage that man - an inferior, subordinate being, pays to woman - a superior, commanding being. The central figure of the works is a woman (or women): confident, haughty, yet beautiful and inaccessible like a deity. The portfolios of Xiaga idolatry, which have survived to this day (there are only a few), are in the collections of, among others, the Jagiellonian Library in Cracow and the Adam Mickiewicz Museum of Literature in Warsaw, as well as in private collections in Poland and abroad."
" 1992 was the Year of Bruno Schulz. The centenary of the birth and fiftieth anniversary of the death of this great writer and illustrator was commemorated in November of that year by the Museum of Literature in Warsaw with a major exhibition devoted to the artist's work and life. It was accompanied by a two-volume album catalog.
Ahead of the event, the Museum also undertook several other initiatives. It made available to the public a series of postcards with 12 reproductions of Schulz's drawings from its own collection, as well as 10 prints by Małgorzata Leszczewska-Włodarska, which are etchings of selected cliche-verre analogues of Bruno Schulz's works from the "Allah's Story" series. Due to the fact that the original glass matrices used by Schulz have not survived to the present day, the Museum accepted the offer of Mrs. Małgorzata Włodarska to make specific copies of Schulz's cliche-verre in etching technique. This is how only 300 sets of prints were created which are already rare today. "
Malgorzata Leszczewska-Wlodarska (born 1953 ) In 1980 she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. The artist is passionate about restoring lost works and using unusual graphic techniques. In 1992 she made 10 etchings according to the cliche-vere technique, which Bruno Schulz used when making illustrations to "The Book of the Idolatrous".
