Prof. Krzysztof Jan Cander was born on February 5, 1936 in Ostrów Wielkopolski, and died on August 11, 2006 in Bydgoszcz. He was a painter and educator. In 1981, he joined the Department of Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun. In the 1990s, he received the title of professor and worked until 2006. In addition, Prof. K. Cander was an appraiser appointed by the Minister of Culture and Art, a member of ZPAP awarded the Golden Cross of Merit.

A graduate of the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdansk, he studied painting with Prof. Stanislaw Borysowski and received his diploma with honors in 1963. He was involved in painting, drawing and publishing graphics. He designed interiors and museum exhibitions and realized thirty stained-glass church windows. The artist has repeatedly participated in national and international exhibitions and competitions, such as: Contemporary Polish Painting in Szczecin (awarded three times), Bielska Jesień - Gold Medal and 1st Prize of the Minister of Culture and Art, "Image of the Year 1980" Competition. - 1st Prize.

The artist painted paintings with symbolic overtones in classical tempera technique, characterized by precise drawing and composition, pure color, containing a large emotional charge.

The works are in the collections of Museums in Krakow, Torun, Chorzow, Bydgoszcz, Grudziadz, Wloclawek, Ostrow Wielkopolski.

The paintings are also in important collections of the Kuyavia and Pomerania Region: at the Palace in Ostromecko, the Pomeranian Philharmonic, the Academy of Music and Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz, and the Center for Contemporary Art in Torun.

In foreign collections, the works are in Hungary - in Budapest and Salgotarian. In addition, they are in major private collections in Warsaw, Torun, Grudziądz, Gdansk, Paris, Vienna, Stockholm, Oldenburg, Cincinnati, San Diego and Tunis.
