Karl Heinz HARTMANN-OELS
b. 1928 Bierutowo
German painter and printmaker. He took the nickname Oels for his surname from the German name for Olesnica. He first studied mathematics and physics at the University of Tübingen, and then graphic design at the Berlin Academy of Art, under the tutelage of professors H. Uhlmann and Jean Mammer. He was associated with academia until 1968. As a printmaker, he established cooperation with galleries in Italy. In 1972, he moved permanently to Italy. He lives and works in San Miniato, Tuscany. He has developed a graphic method that involves the realization of cut and separate shapes that can be combined on the same sheet in different compositional attempts until the desired chromatic-structural combination is achieved.
