Biography
Architect and painter. After World War II, he studied architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. He was an alumnus of Jan Koszyc Witkiewicz. He took part in the design work for Warsaw's Muranów district. Master of drawing, co-founder of the Warsaw School of Drawing, outstanding architect. He conducted many years of teaching, scientific and artistic activities at the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology (1951-2006). Teacher of drawing for many generations of architects. For many years Head of the Department, Department and Studio of drawing at the Faculty of Architecture. He received the title of professor in 1992. As an active designer, he is the author of architectural realizations of the historic urban complex of Kazimierz Dolny (including tenement houses in Senatorska and Klasztorna Streets, numerous granaries). He is also the creator of the contemporary graphic version of the coat of arms of Kazimierz Dolny, based on heraldic studies and research (1994). The artist's drawings and graphic studies have been published in numerous publications. Developing for the Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology drawing patterns and composing the graphic form of documents-diplomas on parchment, honorary academic title of Doctor "Honoris Causa" in 1956-2006. About 100 drawing, graphic and painting compositions are in private and state collections and in collections in Rome, London, Paris, Madrid, Geneva, Lugano, New York. Henryk Dabrowski's drawings on Polish architecture are still in the collections of the Rapperswil Museum. Drawing, graphic and painting compositions exhibited in many individual and group exhibitions and shows at home and abroad. Professor Henryk Dabrowski is often referred to by drawing experts as "Polish Piranesi". Dabrowski's work reflects the professor's unique personality, drawing mastery and craftsmanship as a watercolorist. The artist shows the most interesting architectural gems, their interiors, city panoramas. Outside Poland, the artist was particularly fond of Italy - a stay in 1963-67, creating monumental and sometimes intimate visions of classical buildings. The professor's works show architecture realistically, at the same time rendering the aura and often the vision of its former glory. Particularly interesting are the elaborate panoramas of Polish cities - Warsaw, Gdansk, Toruń, Kazimierz Dolny, Cracow, Tykocin, Pinczow, Krasiczyn and others. Maintained in the mood of vedutas by old masters, the works present a view of a stronghold lasting for centuries, and at the same time pulsating with modern agglomeration.
