ATELIER GRIS-BARCZ 1934Atelier Girs- Barcz, founded in 193 by two graphic artists Anatol Girs and Boleslaw Barcz. Initially, the atelier was located at 151 Marszalkowska Street, but later, mainly for economic reasons, the atelier was moved to 40 Smolna Street, where Franciszek Zmurko had previously had his painting studio. At the "Atelier Girs and Barcz", in addition to comprehensive graphic design of albums, luxury publications, book bindings and covers, the artists also designed advertising posters, ex-libris, catalogs, brochures, advertising labels or company letterheads. Thanks to Boleslaw Barcz's skills in the atelier, portraits, special photomontages as well as monumental sculptures or interior decorations were also made for special commissions.Initially, the resulting works, although often the individual work of each artist, were signed by the artists together. Most of the portraits in etching or lithography or serigraphy were done by Boleslaw Barcz, while the design of layouts or the entirety of the more important album publications themselves, as well as negotiations with clients, were the responsibility of Anatoly Girts. In 1938, the aforementioned graphic artists opened the Oficina Warszawska at 23 Miodowa Street. Unfortunately, the ambitious plans for the new establishment, which promoted bibliophilic prints, were brutally interrupted by the war. The last work published by the atelier was a booklet by J.Stępkowski entitled. "Prayer to the Holy Spirit for a victorious force on the Polish sea," printed in the "Militari" font developed by them and with an etching handmade by Barcz.
