An excellent draftsman and painter. He studied art in 1924-29 at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. He created mainly book illustrations, characterized by light line pen and ink drawings, lavished with gouache or tempera. In 1945-56 he was associated with the weekly magazine "Przekrój". He gained great popularity with his views of old Warsaw and illustrations of the life of its inhabitants, as well as frivolous scenes created with a light line, full of humor and fantasy. He illustrated classics of Polish and foreign literature. He also did theatrical, television and film set design and designed posters.
