Alicja Habisiak-Matczak was born in 1978 in Piotrkow Trybunalski.
From 1997 to 2002 she studied at the Faculty of Graphic Arts and Painting at the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. In 2002 she defended her diploma with distinction in the Studio of Gravure Techniques of Prof. Krzysztof Wawrzyniak Since 2004 she has been employed at her alma mater, since 2016 as Head of the Studio of Gravure Techniques as a professor at the academy. In 2003, she received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Italian Government and completed a six-month graphic design internship at the Urbino Academy of Fine Arts and the KAUS International Graphic Arts Center in Urbino. Since 2013, together with Giuliano Santini, she has initiated and coordinated the PATA Summer International Courses in Printmaking and Artistic Textiles at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, whose seven editions have been very successful among artists from all over the world.

In 2009, she defended her doctoral thesis: "Perspectives - a series of prints and drawings on the theme of urban space" and, by a resolution of the Council of the Faculty of Graphic Arts and Painting of her alma mater, was awarded the degree of Doctor of Fine Arts. In September 2015, she was awarded a postdoctoral degree by a resolution of the same Faculty Council.

She is conducting innovative research on experimental intaglio techniques under grants from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, such as salt aquatint, ferrotint and non-toxic etching techniques. She is currently researching electro-etching and the use of monotype in intaglio printing.

In 2007 she was awarded the "Young Poland" Scholarship Program of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for outstanding Polish artists of the younger generation, and in 2013 she was awarded a scholarship from the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw with exhibitions in Rome, Urbino and Fano.
