Jan Orzelski coat of arms Dryja (Drya) (1551-1612) - castellan of Rogozin, royal courtier, diarist. At the request of Mikolaj Krzysztof Radziwill (1549-1616), he was appointed royal equestrian courtier. Participated in the first free election (1573), where he cast his vote for Henry of Valois. During the reign of Stefan Batory, he participated in the war with Gdansk (1577) and Moscow (1578-81). For his many years of military service, Stefan Batory granted him the starosty of Koœcian as a life tenure; he was active in the sejmiks of the Poznañ and Kalisz provinces, and signed, among other things, the ratification of the election of Sigismund III as king of Poland; by the king's grant, from 1600 he was castellan of Rogozin. Author of the diary and yearbooks of the House of Orzels, Annales domus Orzelsciae, published by Adam Tytus Działyński (1796-1861) from the manuscript of the Kórnik Library: "Having recently found a manuscript from the beginning of the 17th century, I intended to make it public for a number of reasons: first, that it is written in beautiful Latin, which our ancestors once practiced with such fondness [...]. But first and foremost it was the fact that our ancestors rarely devoted a pen to domestic matters that prompted me to publish this letter in print; for in the past Poles, already troubled by external wars, already troubled by their own dissensions, and preoccupied with the good of the Republic, neglected domestic things; hence it is no wonder that a letter of this kind would not want to be let out of one's hands."
