MARIA Leszczynska (1715 - 1768), wife of Louis XV, Queen of France.
Portrait in copperplate according to J. B. van Loo. (mid-18th century) Signature on the plate: "Vanloo peinx" and "Petit Sculp." Format: 35 x 27.5 cm (board: 55 x 41.5 cm).
Queen depicted in half pose, wearing richly decorated gown and ermine coat. Portrait framed in an oval frame supported on a pedestal with the inscription: "Marie Princesse de Pologne Reine de France et de Navarre", punctuated by a cartouche with the coats of arms of Poland, Lithuania, France and Wieniawa Leszczyński. The engraving was created according to a painting by Jean Baptiste van Loo (1694-1760), a highly regarded portrait painter of the time, a French draughtsman and printmaker, producing mainly portraits.
