Franciszek Burkiewicz - Graphic artist, painter and illustrator. Studied at the State School of Decorative Arts and Artistic Industry in Poznan, where he obtained a diploma from the Department of Graphic Arts under Prof. J. Wroniecki in 1935. In 1936 he moved to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he obtained a diploma under Stanislaw Ostoi-Chrostowski in 1939 and completed his diploma at the Department of Graphic Arts at this academy in 1947. After the war, he began teaching at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznan, where he taught from 1945-1952 and 1958-1959. He also taught at the State High School of Fine Arts in Poznan, where he served as director from 1963-1965. He retired in 1975. He participated in 377 exhibitions around the world, including 45 solo exhibitions, and received 40 awards and honors, including: Award of the President of the City of Poznań in 1980, and many decorations for artistic, pedagogical and social activities, including the Knight's Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland. His oeuvre includes nearly 300 prints (mainly in woodcut technique).
