Sensually depicted young woman sleeping on her back on a Louis XVI style bed. The body is slightly twisted into an S-shape.
Alfred Boucher (1850-1934) famous French sculptor and painter. From 1869, he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Paris under Paul Dubois. In 1874, he made his debut at the Salon. In 1877-1879, he spent time in Italy. He quickly gained critical and public acclaim. He created portraits, monuments and genre scenes in the classical style. At Christie's (New York, May 20, 2005), a smaller version of Rest (length 53.4cm), dated 1904, than the one currently on offer, sold for $24,000.
