bronze, concrete; 27 x 8 x 8 cm;
Signed, dated and described on bottom: TEKTONIKA / Bożenna Biskupska / 2007
(in pencil).
One of the main characters in Bożenna Biskupska's sculptures
is the figure of the One-Legged Man also appearing in the work
"Tectonics" from 1998, currently in the collection of the
National Museum in Gdansk, where on a massive,
concrete pedestal was placed
49 representations of a single figure. Initially, the figure of the One-legged
was included in the form of drawings, and then figures
cast in bronze, repeatedly multiplied
and embedded in a concrete block in a specific order.
This order is each time specified by further
elements of the title such as: "343" - which consists of seven
plates of seven characters each vertically and horizontally. Likewise
"Packing," when photographs documenting the "Delineation of the
343 image," limited to seven arrangements of
planes, were placed in a steel cage, creating a
separate work - an installation, which was also accompanied by a
17-minute film. Similarly, "Delineating Image 01."
where entire panels were reproduced, modules with the image of the
One-legged and presented as large-format
prints and projections.
