Biography
Sister of the painter Stanisław Janowski and wife of Tadeusz Rychter. She studied painting in Munich, at the Academy of Florence, and in Rome. She was associated with the artistic community of Kraków. In 1932, she had a solo exhibition at the Zachęta in Warsaw. The artist’s realistic paintings remain highly sought after to this day, mainly due to her chosen subjects—Polish manors and country estates, depictions of the interiors of noble residences, Polish churches and rural cottages, landscapes, and folkloric scenes. Rychter-Janowska also undertook numerous trips abroad, as evidenced by her atmospheric landscapes from Southern Europe and Asia Minor. In addition to oil and watercolor paintings, hand-woven tapestries and gobelins constitute a significant part of her body of work.
