A mahogany rectangular linen cabinet with rounded front corners, with a stepped top, closed with a single-leaf door imitating the front of a secretary (division into a deep bottom drawer, a flap and a shallow top drawer). Low, block feet. The crowning cornice with a scotch profile, enriched at the front with a molding in the shape of a flattened triangle. In the middle of the three low finial steps a drawer with a wavy face. Front veneered with 2 leaves of veneer passing through the pedestal part, the frame and panels of the wing and the crowning cornice Inside, in the corner frames, toothed slats forming shelf supports. Rim construction fastened with a carpenter's lock with a sliding slider. Side walls, bottom and canopy planked; back and door leaf framed with 2 panels. Recessed steel lock, single bolt. Marks on the back: G.32. / G / Cu....n - in ink; fragment of paper sticker in German; Deliver to Urz ..../ Zoppot / Customs Office will send... - fragment of shipping sticker on back.
State of preservation: good, shelf and bar inside unoriginal; minor losses and restorations to veneer; left back panel withered.
A small cabinet imitating a secretaire, forming a pendant to it, i.e. a harmonious, symmetrical composition in the furnishings of interiors, often offices and work rooms of freelancers. Widespread in the era of Biedermeier and during the dominance of the Louis Philippe style (referring to the Baroque and Rococo), especially in German-speaking countries, where it was given the name Blenderschrank.
Provenance: the residence of the Nowina Chrzanowskis in Opacz.
