[KRAKOW - Jawaharlal Nehru with daughter Indira Gandhi during visit to Poland - situational photographs]. [1955]. Set of 7 photographs form. ca 12x9 cm, 9x12 cm, by Edward Węglowski in Kraków.
Photographs documenting the Krakow visit of the first Prime Minister of India to Poland, during which he was accompanied by his daughter Indira Gandhi, later Prime Minister. During her second visit to Poland, which took place on Oct. 8-11, 1967, in an interview with Polish Television, this is how Indira Gandhi recalls her first stay: "It was a longer stay and we had the opportunity to visit Silesia and see something that left a very lasting mark in my memories. I mean the trip to the Auschwitz camp. During the war, when I was in England, I was very closely involved in refugee relief activities, so I was aware of what was happening here. However, seeing the camp was something completely different. It was something you cannot imagine," she says. The Indian Prime Minister is accompanied on the trip by, among others, Prime Minister Jozef Cyrankiewicz. Also visible in the photos is the then president of Cracow Tadeusz Mrugacz. On the back of the 6 photos stamp of the photographer: "Węglowski Edward fotoreporter prasowy Kraków, 7 Koletek St. Telephone 226-93". Good condition.
