Tadeusz Józef Ostoja-Starzewski (born February 7, 1860 in Barycz, died February 10, 1931 in Cracow) - Polish notary, doctor of laws, president of the Chamber of Notaries in Cracow, head of the Treasury Department of the Supreme National Committee, collector (Wikipedia). Interesting information about Tadeusz Starzewski, his passion, work and family can be found in Dorota Malec's extensive article "Z dziejów polskiego notariatu. Krakow politician and notary Tadeusz Starzewski (1860-1931)" published in the
"Rejent" magazine, r. 12, no. 12 (140) of December 2002 - https://u227.e-cryptex.pl/app/appStowarzyszenieS/publikacje/2002/12/3478.pdf
Maciej Jan Adolf St arzewski coat-of-arms Ostoja (born June 17, 1891 in Cracow, died December 4, 1944 there) - lawyer, professor at Jagiellonian University, member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland (Wikipedia).
Jan Michał Polikarp Starzewski (born January 26, 1895 in Wadowice, died January 25, 1973 in London) - Polish diplomat, emigration activist, and Minister of Foreign Affairs (1972-1973) of the Government of the Republic of Poland in Exile (Wikipedia).
Henryk Ostoja Ściborowski (born ? - died October 11, 1946) - long-time head of department in the Tax Office. Husband of Janina née Królik sister of Lucyna Czermakowa. Painter - amateur, mainly a copyist, but also painted his own compositions (still life - mainly floral compositions). He was friends with, among others, Julian Fałat, who was a frequent visitor to their home (they lived at 8 Jabłonowskich Street) and who highly valued his painting technique. He also knew Jacek Malczewski and most likely commissioned Tadeusz Starzewski to make the copies of the paintings presented below (biography courtesy of the family).
Roman Czermak (1899-1965) - defender of Lviv, decorated with the Order of Eaglets of Lviv. Before World War 2, he lived in Katowice and worked as an advertising executive at the Kollontay Soap Factory. He was also active before and after the war in the Automobile Club of Krakow (biography courtesy of his family).
* Below is an excerpt from Zygmunt Nowakowski's text titled. "Serce na Legjony", published in a brochure in memory of Tadeusz Starzewski (1931), reflecting the atmosphere and spirit of the apartment of Mr. and Mrs. Starzewski, from which the presented objects come - "And old Mr. Starzewski put his heart. My goodness, one can say, and the heart is sometimes an unnecessary treat.... A phantom that you don't know what to do with.... Yes, but not this heart. It was all made of gold. And then it was still healthy, strong !...
So this sincere gold heart gave Mr. Starzewski to the Legions whole, without rest. He did not keep anything for himself anymore. He only rejoiced and rejoiced that here was a living army growing before his eyes. For he had so far loved himself in an army that was no longer there. And of which he had full walls.
I knew this beautiful house from the old, old days. Someone's junior high school class.... Ages ! But to this day I can tell by heart on which wall hangs a beautiful, rare engraving, depicting Sowinski at Wola.... Where again is Napoleon at Waterloo, and where is Prince Joseph on the Elste.... Orłowski or old Norblin, Kossak Juljusz or Wojciech, the thirtieth year or the sixty-third.... Well, and Napoleon, Napoleon and more Napoleon.... Because the Polish army and Napoleon were the great passion and passion of old Mr. Starzewski. I remember that beautiful silhouette, cut as if from Grotger.... I can still see him today, as he walks around the large living room, making an overview of this immobile army.... Sometimes he will stop and correct some Napoleon that was hanging crookedly....
Among the beautiful empires and Louis Philippe, among the tapestries and bronzes on the mantelpiece, from above the piano, in a word, from every corner looked this army dead, and yet looking straight into the eyes of everyone who stopped by a particular painting or engraving. Our entire post-partition past lived in these paintings. For the house of Mr. and Mrs. Starzewski was also an arch-Polish house.
Well, and then came the Great War. I visited then rarely, but always a few times a year on Slawkowska Street. The picture gallery changed. From being a museum, it went from being dead to being alive. Whole walls bloomed from Beliniac chakas or from the uniforms of the Carpathian infantry, the second brigade. All formations and all pools. The cavalry and artillery.... Even the tabor, even the ordinands.... And most importantly: all the chiefs!.... Because Mr. Starzewski did not classify, did not divide, did not differentiate - he loved!... So it all fit and reconciled within these bright, wide walls and filled this beautiful house to the brim."....
