Theprivate collection, to which the presented work belongs, is a collection of various photographs from 1973-2000. It includes group photos, portraits and other frames documenting the social and artistic life of which Rytka was a part.The artist's frequent interference in these frames was the gesture of painting over, adding to, coloring in fragments of the photographs. The photograph was taken during the opening of Zygmunt Rytka's exhibition Private Collection at the ZPAF-CSW Mala Gallery, 10.05.1988.
BIO
Intermedia artist. Drawn from the neo-avant-garde tradition, used photography, created installations. Member of ZPAF. In the 1970s made experimental films, in the 1980s engaged in video art. Since the 1980s, he has been associated with the Lodz independent community, first with the Culture of the Whip, then with the East Gallery, and also with the FF Gallery in Lodz. From the early 1970s, he made analytical works that referred to the conceptual tradition, in which the visual appeal of photographed water was contrasted with the study of a short stretch of time. During the same period he was interested in the problem of manipulation associated with television images. The artist's next important realizations were the works in the exhibition Continuity of Infinity (1983), showing the desire to face and even control nature, which cannot be codified and tamed. During the period of the Culture of the Drop, he made humorous works for "Tango" and short films. Since the beginning of the 21st century, he has exhibited installations that sum up his creative achievements. He received many awards, including: a diploma and medal from the ZPAF (1997), the medal of the 20th anniversary of the MHF in Krakow (2007), the Special Award of the Minister of Culture (2007), the Silver Medal "Meritorious to Culture Gloria Artis" (2009), the Katarzyna Kobro Award (2011). His works are in the collections of: National Museum in Wroclaw, Museum of Art in Lodz, Museum of the History of Photography in Krakow, Studio Gallery in Warsaw, the collection of the Warmia and Mazury Society of Fine Arts in Olsztyn, the collection of the Lower Silesia Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Artoteka in Zielona Gora, the Center for Polish Sculpture in Oronsko, as well as in private collections.
