UGM-27A Polaris A-1 - the first US ballistic missile carried and launched from the deck of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM). Polaris A-1 was a two-stage medium-range (1,200 Mm) solid-fuel missile with a single MRV nuclear warhead weighing 272 kg and one megaton. The missiles were the world's first ballistic missiles launched from under water, and the first to be launched using the "cold launch" method.
