Models (2007-2014), documented in photographs by Marcelina Sosnowska, is a series of elaborate paper mock-ups by Monika Sosnowska, which are the basis for future massive steel sculptures. Monika Sosnowska's work confuses the viewer, questioning awareness of form and space. It was inspired by found architectural elements, which the artist depicts as distorted and disconnected from their common utility.
Monika Sosnowska was born in 1972 in Ryki. She creates spatial and architectural installations and sculptures. Her works exist only for a certain period of time and then are destroyed. Sosnowska's projects always concern specific places. The artist makes certain interventions and modifications in real existing architecture or specially crafted architecture. Thus, she transforms physical space into mental space and plays a game with the viewer's perception. She often uses a game with scale, most often in the context of the human body, which affects the sense of orientation. In 2003 she was awarded the prestigious Baloise Art Prize in Basel. In 2007 she represented Poland at the 52nd Venice Biennale. The artist is affiliated with the Foksal Gallery Foundation and lives and works in Warsaw.
