Railroad viaduct in Grzegórzki - railroad bridge in Cracow over Grzegórzecka Street and Dietla Street, originally on the Old Vistula River, completed in 1863, and since the 2nd half of the 19th century after the riverbed was filled in, a viaduct. Demolished in January 2022, its expansion and planned restoration is underway. It was built in 1861-1863 and put into service on November 23, 1863 as a railroad bridge over the old Vistula riverbed by the Karl Ludwig Railway Company on the Krakow-Lviv line. It was designed by the Cracow architect Leon Mikucki. It replaced a wooden bridge (built in 1854-1856), which had existed in this place for several years. Currently, railroad line No. 91 runs over it - the viaduct is located between the Krakow Główny railroad station and the Krakow Zablocie railroad stop. The bridge is 98 meters long and 12 meters wide, and was built for a double-track railroad line. It consists of 5 spans (with a height of 7 m and a span of 11 m) supported on stone pillars and arched vaults built of brick. In 1878-1880, when the former Vistula riverbed was filled in, the bridge became a viaduct and has remained so ever since. It is one of the oldest surviving bridges in Krakow. On its eastern side (from Grzegórzecka Street), the circles above the pillars still show the numbers with the date of its opening, and on the side of Jozef Dietl Street, the letters GKLB (meaning Galizische Karl Ludwig Bahn) were placed until the 1950s. The viaduct is one of the structures on the Krakow Technology Route created on April 6, 2006. As part of the expansion of the railroad line between the Krakow Central Station and the Krakow Zablocie railroad stop, the viaduct was to be rebuilt and widened to four tracks, instead of the previous two. This was to be made possible by adding a reinforced concrete structure stylistically reminiscent of the historical part. A Kraków Grzegórzki railroad stop was to be built in the vicinity of the viaduct. Eventually, however, the bridge was removed from the register of monuments by a decision of the Ministry of Culture in September 2021 and demolished in January 2022 (Wikipedia).
