Depicts a view of Giewont, considered the highest peak of the Western Tatra Mountains. Printed on the right margin of the backing: "St Bizański Kraków and Zakopane". Photo pasted on original cardboard backing with black border. Very good condition.
S. Bizanski (1846-1890) - Cracow professional photographer. From 1880 to 1890, owner of the photographic establishment Pod Nową Bramą (Under the New Gate) at 430 (now 10 Sienna St.), and then under his name at 3 Szczepanski Square in Cracow (from 1891-1893), and branches in Krynica and Zakopane from 1892. From 1893-1896, the establishment was run by his widow Maria, and from 1896-1900 by his older son Władysław. Author of portraits of Walery Eliasz Radzikowski, Wladyslaw Mickiewicz, Henryk Sienkiewicz, as well as depictions of Zakopane guides and Tatra types. He photographed the Tatra Mountains probably even before 1880. He is the author of two albums-takes of Tatra photography: "Views of the Tatra Mountains in the Photographs of Stanislaw Bizanski Photographer in Cracow" and "Views from the Tatra Mountains" published after his death in 1901.
