[GOC Francis - situational portrait photographs]. [l. 10th c., 1915, 1937]. Set of 3 photographs - 1. form. 13.8x8.8 cm on original backing form. 16.3x10.6 cm, by J[ózef] Gach in Wadowice; 2. form. 12x17 cm; 3. form. 14x9 cm.
In shot 1 - portrayed in 3/4 form. Photo glued on original cardboard backing. On the lower margin of the backing gilded print: "J. Gach Wadowice". On the back an Art Nouveau advertising vignette of the establishment. Good condition. In frame 2 - during convalescence in the hospital. On the back a handwritten inscription in pencil: "Hospital in Ostrzychom 1915. Esztergom - Hungary." All corners damaged, otherwise good condition. In shot 3 - a scientist stands against a background of vegetation with a camera in his hand. On the back an extensive private correspondence to Wladyslaw Goc in Biala. Good condition.
F. Goc (1893-1988) - studied at the Jagiellonian University from 1915-1919 and received a diploma in agricultural engineering. From 1920 he worked in the Department of Horticulture at the Jagiellonian University. In 1934 he received a doctorate in agriculture from the Faculty of Agriculture at Jagiellonian University on the basis of a dissertation entitled. "Variability of Forms and Anomalies in Primula obconica Hance," while he received the title of associate professor in 1955 on the basis of a monographic study entitled. "Cultivation of hazel trees." After the war he worked in Wroclaw, being, among other things, head of the Department of Horticulture at the Higher School of Agriculture in 1945-1948 and 1953-1963. He was the author of studies on horticulture, popularizer of knowledge in this subject, organizer and lecturer of courses and training for growers both, in the interwar and postwar years.
Jozef (Jakób?) Gach (Gast) - photographer, who was born in Slemień. Since the 1890s, he ran a photography business in Wadowice on Iwańskiego Street. He died in the early 1940s.
