Edward Janczewski (1846-1918) - botanist, professor of plant anatomy and physiology at the Jagiellonian University, vice-dean of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University (1889/1890), rector of the Jagiellonian University (1901/1902), correspondent (1876) and active (1885) member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences, secretary (1887-1890)and director (1890-1894 and 1908-1914) of its Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, member of many Polish and foreign scientific societies, author of more than 160 works, including a world monograph of the genus Ribes and a series of works on the variability of hybrids in the genus Anemone, is one of the pioneers and classics of scientific horticulture in Poland.
