A historically interesting and very rare Danzig coin.
During the interregnum, two types of coins were minted in Gdansk: denarii and the more interesting and rarer shekels. More interesting because they contained the titular name of the king who had died the year before. On the obverse of the coin containing an Eagle with a sword, we can read in the legend in the rim SIGIS - DEI - GRA - REX - POLONI +.
This issue was not continued in the following years, and it was not until 1577 that Gdansk began minting coins related to the Siege of the City.
Piece slightly bent, but with nice luster and good detail. Distinctive for this issue.
