Military observation and liaison aircraft designed and manufactured in the USA, first
first used operationally in 1942 in the North African campaign, later in Italy.
With the formation of the second front in June 1944 also over northern and western Europe. About 130 units of the L4 model were purchased and imported to Poland in early 1947. All of them required overhaul, which was carried out at the Aircraft Experimental Workshops (LWD). By the end of the 1940s, they were the standard equipment of regional air league aeroclubs in Poland. Also produced at the LWD, the Żuk and Szpak airplanes were provided with an engine and propeller from the Piper L4 aircraft. Also produced at LWD, the Zuk and Szpak aircraft were provided with an engine and propeller from the Piper L4 aircraft.
