[SZYMBORSKA Wisława]. Handwritten letter from Wislawa Szymborska decorated with the writer's own "sticker", addressed to Danuta Herbert-Ulam in Paris, dated. December 12, 1981 in Cracow.
Sheet of stiff paper form. 10.4x14.6 cm. On one side glued an old newspaper advertisement announcing the publication of two books, on the back a male silhouette cut out of a newspaper and a French joke ("Mr. and Mrs. Wallon are honored to announce the birth of their daughter. Father and child are feeling well"). Upon her return from Muszyna, Szymborska apologizes for the delay in her correspondence: she wanted to write earlier, but "life is going on in such a hop, skip and a jump that nothing came of it." She further informs: "From London I resigned, I learned that the whole event was to be held in strange company for my taste. Your namesake Herbert also resigned." Preserved original envelope with a sticker printed with the poet's address (46 Piastowska Street). The addressee of the correspondence is Danuta Herbert-Ulam, Zbigniew Herbert's cousin, wife of prominent physicist Juliusz Ulam. Very good condition.
