"Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts "Brera" in Milan, invited by Federico Fellini to co-create the decoration for his film "Dolce Vita" Such were the beginnings of the career of Luigi Castiglioni, a Milanese who stole the hearts of Poles with the design of a poster with the slogan "Votre Solidarité!" (1982), on which we see a map of Poland, from which emerges the face of a woman mourning for her country. - In a symbolic and at the same time poetic way, the artist depicted the drama of the introduction of martial law, showing in profile a young woman's face shedding bloody tears over the map of Poland
The poster was a sign of closeness and cooperation between the French and the Poles, as well as a symbolic brick from the sale of which funds were raised for Solidarity. For many Europeans it became iconic, political and symbolic.
