[TUROWICZ Jerzy]. Three handwritten letters by Jerzy Turowicz, dated. 26 II, 30 III, and 15 V 1976 in Cracow, Poland.
All letters, one or two pages long, on the letterhead of the "Tygodnik Powszechny" editorial office, two A4 format, one A5. Two letters signed with first name, one with author's name. The letters concern a proposal to write for "Tygodnik Powszechny" a discussion of P. Mroczkowski's work "Gentlemen and Poets." The correspondence shows that Najder has read the book, but the numerous criticisms of it that he would have to write discouraged him from reviewing the publication. Turowicz does not insist, proposing a looser form of an informative note or even a "note signed with the letters Z.N.". He originally asks for a text on 3 typewritten pages, then writes about 2-3 pages, and finally limits himself to a text "if only for a typewritten page." He invites Najder to the pages of the magazine he edits: "since you write that you would like to show up in the pages of TP (and I would like that too), the gate is open, even if you don't write a word [about the book]." Good condition. Letters without envelopes.
J. Turowicz (1912-1999) - columnist, writer, long-time editor of "Tygodnik Powszechny", signatory of "Letter 34". "During the time when he was editor-in-chief of 'Tygodnik Powszechny' the magazine gained great importance and prestige, and in the 1980s it became the informal press organ of the opposition circles" (Wikipedia).
