Letter from diplomat Nikolai Orlov to Mr. Delattre, 9/21 May 1863

Dimensions: 135 x 205 mm, pp. 6. Folding marks, corner clipped near first page. Describes events in Russia, including Gen. Rochebrune - former spy of the Paris Security Brigade, corporal in the French army, and appointed general in Poland, etc.; Gen. Z. Padlewski, who on the day of Capt. Timofeiff's engagement, kidnapped him and the next day, along with four other Russians, "disemboweled" and hanged him; mentions Garibaldi. He compares Poles to the worst bandits, torturers who hang and murder mostly peasants, women and children. Very rare.
