[LENARTOWICZ Teofil]. Fragment of a handwritten letter by Teofil Lenartowicz, no date, written from Italy, and a letter by Tekla Zmorska regarding Lenartowicz, dated. AUGUST 6, 1877.
Letter from T. Lenartowicz: double-sided manuscript on two pages form. 12x9.5 cm, next two pages blank. Correspondence addressed to an unknown addressee, signed "Yours wholeheartedly Teofil". From the contents of the letter: "If you know Matejko then remind me of his heart and memory and ask me for a photograph or Skarga or any of his paintings and I will send him something mutually - I would like Italy to see how it is Poles composing and not for themselves but for Polish fame wanting to achieve something from his compositions". Folds and abrasions of the sheet.
Attached letter from Tekla Zmorska (1825-1898, wife of poet and ethnographer Roman Zmorski, maintaining correspondence contact with Lenartowicz) addressed to the editor of "Ruch Literacki". One-sided manuscript on ark. 20.8x13 cm. The author quotes the poet's words regarding the work of this editorial board: "why they don't correspond with me and why they don't want to put print errors, and why they don't answer me to any letter!!!". He concludes the letter by stating: "Mr. T. Lenartowicz has fallen seriously ill in recent days". Very good condition.
T. Lenartowicz (1822-1893) poet, ethnographer, sculptor and conspirator, since 1852 in exile, buried in the crypt of the distinguished on Skałka in Cracow.
