Elektryczne Koleje Dojazdowe S.A. was established in 1922, the construction of tracks began in 1925, the first courses started1927 (opening of the first line connecting Warsaw with Grodzisk Mazowiecki). In 1951 the company was nationalized - as part of the PKP they functioned as Warsaw Commuter Rail (WKD).
