Collection of 5 letters from 1939-1942
Dated. 1939-1942. 3 postcards and 2 letters of various formats (envelope attached to one letter).
The correspondence offered concerns Czeslaw Kolakowski of Warsaw, a soldier of September 1939, assigned to the Commander-in-Chief's Headquarters. He was interned in a camp in Romania, then a prisoner of war in Stalag XA and XVIIA, later on agricultural labor in Schleswig. Two postcards, one from December 1939 to Maksymilian Gerschman, asking him to notify his wife Stefania of Kowalczyk where he is now. This postcard has a postage stamp cut out. The second postcard from January 1940 is a reply to this letter but in German. There is a letter from Maria Kolakowska's mother from 1941 describing who survived, on a blank Kriegsgefangenepost stamped Stalag XVII A. This one has traces of stearin flooding. Two letters from 1942 by Czeslaw Kowalczyk written from work on a landed estate. One envelope with stamp preserved.
