typed, handwritten notes/paper; 29.8x21 cm folio, twice signed by hand with monogram
Letter dated December 10, 1969, written in Sanok by Zdzislaw Beksinski to Andrzej Urbanowicz and Urszula Broll. It begins with the words: So, by the way, what I telephoned and wrote yesterday. On top of that, I got cold yesterday flying behind that baracha ....
In the letter, the author addresses in great detail the issues of the painter's sub-image and the possibility of moving from board to canvas. He asks a series of questions, ending the letter on the second page: Do you know anything about this subject? Sorry, you guys are rather hung up on it as far as I know, but I'm thorough so as long as you have some manuals, technologies or something, send it along.
Slightly below, however, he continues the letter on the same subject, describing that 65x92 cm stretchers would suit him best. He also adds in his own handwriting: I can't paint a square!!!
He then sketches cross-sections of the stretchers. Zdzislaw Beksinski finally ends the letter on the fourth page with a description of his painting "my" frayed crucifixion (in Piotr Dmochowski's gallery No. DG-2298), finding common features with the paintings of Zbigniew Makowski.
The above letter is a valuable document about the life of the artist, still living in Sanok at the time.
