WARSAW. Order by the suffragan bishop administrator of the Archdiocese of Warsaw A. Białobrzeski dated 29.09.1857 of thanksgiving service after the birth of Olga daughter of Konstantin Nikolayevich Romanov and Princess Alexandra, handwritten, double-sided; stains, tear at bottom without damage to text, bend in upper right corner; dimensions ca. 193x310 mm.
Priest Antoni Białobrzeski played an important role in the events preceding the outbreak of the January Uprising. During the period of patriotic demonstrations in October 1861, Russian soldiers entered the Warsaw cathedral. As its administrator, Bialobrzeski, in protest, ordered the closure of Warsaw churches and refused to open them despite the demands of the governor of the Kingdom, General Alexander Lüders. He was arrested for this and sentenced to death by a Russian court martial, commuted to a year's imprisonment in the Bobruisk fortress. Arrested again during the January Uprising, he was deported deep into Russia. Died in exile in the Penzhin Governorate.
