, "The Poniatowski Monument returned to Poland in March 1922, as part of the action of revindication of monuments and works of art under the Riga Treaty. It stood temporarily in the courtyard of the Royal Castle. A Committee to erect a monument to Prince Poniatowski was established, chaired by Prime Minister Antoni Ponikowski. In April 1922 it identified four places where the monument could stand: in front of the Namiestnikowski Palace, in front of the Church of the Nuns of the Visitation, on Saski Square and in Ujazdowskie Avenue. Eventually, the 4.5-meter high sculpture was moved to Saski Square in 1923. It was placed on a pedestal designed by Aleksander Bojemski in front of the Saski Palace and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The pedestal was made of slabs from the dismantled monument to Paskevich. The unveiling ceremony of the monument on May 3, 1923 was connected with the arrival and appointment of Ferdinand Foch as Marshal of Poland. During the unveiling of the monument, a group of Polish military officers were decorated with French orders.'' [source: Wikipedia]
