[PolishArmy, aviation, Witold Urbanowicz]. A set of documents relating to pilot Witold Aleksander Urbanowicz from the 1970s to the 1990s.
The set consists of, among other things:
1. correspondence with the management of the Museum of the Polish Army in Warsaw (letters from the Museum in the original, Urbanowicz's letters in typed copies) concerning donations made by the pilot to the museum collection (years 1989-1996)
2. three original "gift receipts" listing, among others: officer's uniform of the Polish Air Force, badges (including those of Squadron 303 and the Chinese Air Force), a metal eagle made by mechanics of the Fighter School in Ulęż, an oil portrait of V. Urbanowicz, an oil painting depicting a scene of air combat
3. materials relating to the Museum of the Polish Army in Warsaw (two press articles, two typescript texts by W. Urbanowicz about the Museum, leaflet accompanying the exhibition "Not only Katyn")
4. a copy of the "list of fighter pilots by order of victory [...] in Great Britain".
5. autobiographical text by W. Urbanowicz "The First on the Moon" (copy from typescript, 6 p.).
6. text (letter?) by V. Urbanovich "Aviators and writers" (typescript, p. 5)
7. copy of letter to Lublin Publishers regarding reissue of W. Urbanowicz's book "Fire over China" (1975)
8. photographic copy of Stanislaw Szukalski's work "The Aviator's Oath".
Objects in good and very good condition.
W. A. Urbanowicz (1908-1996) - brigadier general (appointed November 11, 1995 by President Lech Walesa), pilot of the Polish Air Force, lieutenant colonel (Wing Commander) of the Royal Air Force, fighter ace, memoirist, commander of 303 Squadron, ranked among the top ten pilots of the Battle of Britain and second after Stanislaw Skalski in the ranking of Polish fighter aces in World War II (shot down 17 planes). He published several books devoted to his memories of the war ("The Beginning of Tomorrow", Krakow 1966, "Dawn of Victory", Krakow 1971, "Fire over China", Krakow 1963).
