[AFTANAZY Roman]. A collection of 6 typed letters and typed 7 correspondence cards signed by the author's handwriting, dated 1975-1977.
Letters of 1 or 2 A4 size pages, sent without exception from Wroclaw, signed by hand with full name, with a final note sometimes attached. Aftanazy devotes the most space to detailed arrangements for the identification and location of objects visible in the photos sent by Najder, and related to the Korzeniowski and Bobrowski families. Knowing of Najder's planned trip to Ukraine, he suggested: "in your place [...] I would go to Belaya Cerkiew. There I would settle in a hotel, photograph from all sides the former Branicki Palace [...] and the church Both buildings preserved! From Biala Cerkiew I would go to Alexandria, the actual residence of the Branicki family during the 19th and 20th centuries, with the most magnificent Polish park in Ukraine next to Zofiyivka." In other letters, the sender corrects a misleading photo caption in a book by Jessie Conrad, the writer's widow, informs about fresh Conrad publications, and describes how, with the help of a chain of friends, he obtains photos of the current state of many buildings in western Ukraine. Very good condition. Letters without envelopes.
R. Aftanazy (1914-2004) - historian and librarian, associated almost throughout his professional life with the Ossolineum Library in Lviv and Wroclaw. Aftanazy's life's work was the eleven-volume "History of Residences on the Former Borderlands of the Republic" (1986-1993 and 1991-1997), materials for which he collected at his own expense since the interwar years. He willingly shared his vast knowledge with others, as evidenced by the letters offered here. It is clear from them that the phrase ending one of the letters: "It will give me great pleasure if I still prove useful to you in anything" was not just a formula of politeness.
