Technical Review is one of the oldest existing European magazines devoted to general technical subjects. Its history dates back to 1866 when the first issue was published. The journal has been in existence until today with short breaks in 1867-1874 and during both world wars.
The magazine began to appear at a unique time. In the second half of the 19th century, economic and cultural changes were taking place. The proletariat and the intelligentsia emerged. Positivism was born. The world entered the era of scientific and technological revolution. People with technical education gained importance. Graduates of technical schools in Paris, St. Petersburg, etc. brought not only knowledge and technical innovations, but also different thinking about the economy and the state. And although Poland was not on the map of Europe, a climate conducive to new thinking about the future, Reborn Poland and the preparation of the foundations for the construction of its statehood was created. The authors of the "Technical Review" - outstanding creators of technology took up in its pages the issues of construction, mining, metallurgy, mechanics, chemical technology and others. The message of the magazine was to raise the level of technical culture, spread education and popularize new technical solutions and technologies. It was a tribune for the exchange of views and opinions of the technical community on topics that often went beyond issues related to science and technology. The magazine aimed to popularize the development of technology and modern industry in the Polish lands. It supported the idea of establishing Polish technical schools. It addressed the modernization of cities, the creation of modern infrastructure in them. (after Ewa Mankiewicz-Cudny, article on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Technical Review)
