Lot description Show orginal version
Grade: VF+
Reference: Dutkowski 90 (R7-R8), Kopicki 7525 (R3), Friedberg 10, Kaleniecki 170/171, Tyszkiewicz 16 mk

Very rare, transitional type of Danzig ducat 1610 - combining features of early and late ducats of this vintage.

Issued after the departure of the mint manager (Filip Klüver), without his monogram (FK) on the reverse, but with an early portrait type - a smaller head, with a wavy orifice instead of a tubular one.

A variety described in Dutkowski's grade of rarity R7-R8, known to him only from two collections (Czapski and Nagorka). Absent, among others, from the largest Polish museum collection - the MN in Warsaw.

Distinguished by the bust separating the titulature (D:G---REX) and the presence of the mint mark - "bear's paw" - above the coat of arms shield.

In the study by Marek Kaleniecki "Polish Gold Coins at World Auctions 1945-2002" he found only 4 listings of this type in more than 50 years, and not all of them were combined with this obverse (other varieties)!

Piece of good presentation. Wavy from a few light bends. Glossy, with sharp relief.

First time in our offer.

Gold, diameter 21-22 mm, weight 3.36 g.
