The rarest variety of the rare 1603 vintage.
Characterized by a different shape of the city's keys - topped with trilaterals (three connected circles) instead of "hearts". The variety is rarer than the denarii with a full date referred to by Kopicki as R8. The last listing of this variety was at the 19th WDA auction (item 291 sale price of 5290 zloty).
An early vintage of Poznan denarii minted by Engelbert Geelen, who, invoking the city's minting rights granted by Ladislaus Jagiello, began issuing city coins under Sigismund III. Thus opening in 1602 the mint in Poznan, which had been closed a year earlier.
Coin washed, with exposed copper red, but also remnants of black patina and tarnish.
Well minted, legible, with a nice presence.
