Teutonic Order, Winrych von Kniprode (1351-1382), half-jewel, mint Torun

Coin from an old collection (inventory number - 139 - marked on the edge with a marker), an unclean piece with a dark patina, a sound numismatic piece.

The monetary reform of Grand Master Winrych von Kniprode was carried out in response to the increasing amount of foreign coinage in the territory of the Teutonic State, especially the Prague pennies. The half-penny (halbscoter), introduced around 1364, is the largest silver coin then in circulation. It was a one-time issue unrepeated by subsequent Teutonic masters.

Silver, weight 3.05 grams, diameter 26 mm

Literature: Kopicki 9009 (R4), Neumann 3
