Lot description Show orginal version
Grade: VF+
Reference: Kopicki 8983e (R6)

Probably the oldest coin of the Teutonic Order, dated 1236-48.
As Witold Garbaczewski points out, "The symbolism of this composition is clear - knights with a cross on their mantles carry the banner of Christianity to the pagan lands of the Prussians."
In the former literature, its issuance was attributed to the mint in Chelmno, which Boris Paszkiewicz disagrees with, clearly indicating Torun.
Variety: 4 balls on the left side of the pennant, a straight cross in the center.

A very nice piece for this type of coin, old patina.

A rare item, highly recommended.

Obverse: Arm with pennant, 4 balls on the left, straight cross in the center.

Diameter 22 mm, weight 0.26 g.
